ABOUT SCORECARD|How to Integrate a Scorecard Banner into Your Website

Want to offer visitors to your website easy access to Scorecard's environmental information? If you already know how to create pages for your website, it's a simple process to integrate Scorecard banners into it. Just follow these steps:

1. Choose the banner you wish to feature on your site from our banner selection page (e.g., Banner #5). Right click on your mouse (anywhere on the page) to reveal a menu and select 'View Source'. Alternately, choose the Page Source option from the View pull down menu on your browser tool bar. This will show the page's html source code.

2. Hit 'Ctrl F' to do a find search. Enter the particular banner you wish to use (e.g., 'Banner #5'). This will bring you to the html code for your banner.

3. Highlight text from " - - beginning code for banner #5 - - " through to "- - end code for banner #5 - - ". Copy text using the 'Ctrl C' function.

4. Paste copied text into the html code of the web page on your own site where you want the banner to appear.

5. You must also capture the graphics. Some of the banners are made up of more than one graphic file, so be sure to capture all the graphic components a banner requires. Put your cursor over a piece of the banner while on the banners page. Right click on your mouse and select 'View Image'.

6. The browser window will either display part of or the entire banner you want. Right click on your mouse again and select the Save As option from the File menu. Save the *.gif image for use in the appropriate graphics section in your own website's directory structure.

7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until all graphic components of a banner are captured and saved to your website directory (e.g., for Banner #5 you will copy three files: sm1.gif, sm2.gif, and sm31.gif).

8. Go back to the html code page where you are placing the banner. Find ('Ctrl F') the graphic files by entering the name of each (e.g., sm1.gif). You will see text similar to "graphic/sm1.gif" change this text to reflect the web directory location where you saved the graphics (e.g., "my_directory/sm1.gif"). This will ensure that your html code points to the correct graphics directory on your server.

9. Repeat step 8 for each graphic part of the banner.

That's it - you have now integrated a Scorecard banner into your site. Be sure to check to make sure that clicking on the banner or entering your zip code brings you directly to the appropriate Scorecard page. Thanks for helping spread the word.
