  Project Description

  Geographical Coverage:
Unincorporated U.S. Territory of Guam

  Project Purpose:
The main objectives of the Comparative Risk Analysis/Guam project are to:

1. Develop a comparative risk methodology appropriate for use in the American Flag Pacific islands based on the EPA model;
2. Assess the risks to human health and the environment by environmental problems on Guam;
3. Test Guam's environmental data base (see to what extent the data exist to answer basic policy questions about Guam's environment); and
4. Use the results of the ranking for strategic planning within GEPA [Guam Environmental Protection Agency], and between GEPA and USEPA Region IX.

  Ranking Process:
The Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) ranked the problem areas in terms of risks that they pose to Human Health, while a separate Ecological Subcommittee of the TAP constructed the Ecological Risk Rankings during a focused workshop.

  Participants in the Ranking Process:
Governmental Agencies
Scientific/Academic Community

All of the above stakeholder groups had representatives on the Technical Advisory Panel.
